Nature Calls

What goes hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly? Why bugs and fashion of course.

Before I had attended Azede Jean-Pierre's Spring/Summer 2014 Collection at the Highline in the Standard Hotel, I looked up the new designer who attended the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her Fall 2013 collection featured the sexy androgynous style of a...beetle? Yes, using the most luxurious of fabrics, Jean-Pierre crafted leather crop tops, jackets, and trousers modeled after the anatomy of a beetle. To see Azede's Fall 2013 Collection click here.

Azede continues here love of nature and creepy crawlers in her brightly hued Spring/Summer Collection. Using prints resembling the structure of mountains, volcanoes, and bubbles as well fog, ashes, the rain forest, and the sun, she goes balls out earthy on this truly one of a kind collection. Her previous use of structured hemlines, shapes, and silhouettes is also present.

Safe to say this has been the most inspiring collection I've seen during New York Fashion Week. Azede Jean-Pierre is a designer who takes the most general objects in the world and turns them into her own works of art. And that kids, is what fashion is all about.

Amazing symmetry. Azede Jean-Pierre is not only a design prodigy, but apparently really good at math.

Buggin' Out: With a multi-colored print only found on insects in the rain forest, Azede uses intricate cuts and unique shapes on the first dress that works as the ultimate man repellent. Pictured far right are bermuda shorts with actual bug print. Not recommended for wear in actual rain forest expeditions.

Hot & Cold: Azede brilliantly combines the water and fire elements in this modern caftan style dress.
