Bath, Beauty, & Boudoir

What seemed more like a party than a presentation (and I mean that in the biggest compliment ever), costume designer Adam Selman, debuted his first collection as a mock photo shoot set in the trendiest bath house this side of Greenwich Village.

Lots of things came to mind when I saw Adam Selman's Spring/Summer 2014 collection: Miami. Sleep. Hockey. Rihanna.

For those who don't know Adam Selman, he is the head designer of Rihanna for River Island (also a custom designer of hers who has created some of her best red carpet looks) and former costume designer of Britney Spears and Michael Jackson. For his debut collection, Selman described it as "easy dressing" using inspiration from the 1981 HBO Special on supermodels Beautiful Baby, Beautiful and glamorous 1970's Cosmopolitan magazine covers.

Using soft shades of pink, blue, and nude with black trim, Adam gives his lingerie look an update of boudoir living. Selman states he chose these colors because they are reminiscent of those soft-focus vintage magazine covers. Thinking of an old interview magazine with Bianca Jagger on the cover, I am enticed to agree. He definitely nails the look of the 80's with glittered eye shadow and rosey cheeks on the models.

It's a safe debut indeed, with pieces that can create an easy look in 15 minutes. I think Selman is smart. The Navy fans will eat this all up when Rihanna is seen wearing the collection early next year. By then the name will be out and will have fashionistas looking for more of the Designer's work by the time the fall collection hits the next fashion week.

Not sure if hiking or going to bed...

Pretty sure Rihanna will be wearing this at the VMA's next year.
